I wanted something awesome that had never been attempted at Wynyard Hall before. I asked Bethany and Niall to stand and chat in a beautiful arched window at Wynyard Hall. I took the photo through a chandelier that I was uplighting with some lighting equipment to give the effect. No poses, just conversation, but trust and comfort. It seemed the right type of image for them. (2-3 minutes)

PRICING

Over the last 5 years I have been privileged to photograph over 230 weddings.  Most of these weddings are referrals from other weddings.

I am discreet, I understand people’s boundaries and I am fun in between. The guests who choose to pass on my name, tend to remember that the most.

HOW DO I CHOOSE MY PHOTOGRAPHER?

The key to finding a good photographer is actually simpler than you would think.

You need to find someone who is experienced but can ensure, that they can get the job done.  It is very easy to look amazing on a website nowadays.  The biggest hurdle any photographer has is the chemistry with the client on the day.  Assembly line work, cheap work, and expensive forced work all suffer from poor chemistry.  Weddings require a lot of people energy and a lot of creative thought.

This is why I would advise any photographer to limit how many weddings they do a year.
I knew that the brides father might be walking around sometime soon, and I was prompted that seeing his baby girl looking like a princess and ready to take on a new chapter in her life would be too much for him. So i had one of my cameras ready so that the exposure would be perfect going from the light to the dark, whilst being able to capture his movement. I was gossiping with the girls, cutting a loose thread on the brides dress, fanning the bridesmaids in the heat, drying the flower stems and having some fun moments, whilst in my mind preparing for the potential shot. Phew! (1 second)

What provisions have you made?

Im pretty well set up.  I have a car and a back up car.  I have connected with hundreds of photographers from around the world and dozens in my local area some of who I recommend.  I have 9 backup systems ranging from drives in-house and off-site, to cloud storage, I back up during your meal and when i return home.  What else?  Let me think, I have 3 cameras on the day with dual card slots and silent shutter systems.  Its all pretty high end stuff but a camera is a camera in my opinion it just needs to be reliable.

How do I book you?

I think a smooth transaction is the most important thing.  A few emails, perhaps a call is all it takes to book me along with a £250 booking fee for UK weddings.

Connecting is the best way to make the right choice.

What can i do if you are already booked?

I have photographers I would more than happily recommend, but on a basis of reliability and consistency.

WHAT DO I GET?

Each and every wedding story receives a full day treatment with the delivery of around 250 award winning style images and a further 250+ candid shots.  These are shots of your guests enjoying themselves, it wouldn't be a story with these deleted in my opinion.  I mingle with your crowd as one of the guests and I don't look like a photographer, in my tweed suit and hidden camera.

90% of great photography is the right person
Janella had grown up around Holy Island, adventuring as a child and popping in for tea to see her grandmother who lived there. She met Rory in South Africa as they both took on leading positions at Jaguar, the car firm. It was her dream to finally bring him to her home away from home. As they strolled along the beach Rory took Janella by the hand and offered to buy her ice-cream. I thought the hand gesture was so poignant here, and I loved the dress design so much that I thought id take the image here with the focus on their hands through to the flowers with everything in between out of focus. This way the image is open to interpretation, expression and narrative more than a deliberate or posed shot would have it. (2 seconds)

What separates your work from everyone elses?

I'm not sure, but I would say, i do go the extra mile to blend in with the day and create some original artwork.

There are a lot of fab images out there but the majority of them are copied rather than organic.  For me, being a friend beats trying to be a 'photographer'.  Every story a bridesmaid has told me seems to be of weddings that are very photographer centric.  Surely your day is about having an awesome time and seeing your family and friends?  I'd rather go above and beyond to create something special that is a bit more personal, and keep it all within the convenience of the bride and groom.

I might be a good fit for your day if you are looking for something that is original and all about your story
I popped this image onto a photographers group on Facebook called Looks Like Film. I nearly didn't post it anywhere.

Are you the right photographer for our people?

I am genuinely excited by meeting new people and appreciating them whether outrageous, shy, quirky, or elegant, all people fascinate me.  So i am literally all over the place making sure I am in the right place and ensuring that everyone around me are completely relaxed with me.   Have a look at my work and you will see more personalities in my work than anything else.

Im a people person first and a photographer second which is rare in this industry.

At the end of the night I come alive so the dance floor is my favourite part of the evening. By this point everyone is comfortable around me from kids to grandparents and everyone can be themselves. (1 second)

Do you have any areas you are secretly good at?

Well, I have taught film and composition over 7 years, which begs the question of why I am not offering photographer training.  At the moment, I am just enjoying the people I meet at weddings and sure I get photographers asking quite often if I do courses, but I might entertain the idea one day in the future.

Do you have any areas you are not so good at?

Sure, everybody does.  Mine is my marketing.  I am terrible at it.  Im on page 8 of google (boo).  I'm not at wedding fairs.  I have gone viral with my work and won awards organically though.  I just care about my work, and the people i'm with, over the last 5 years word of mouth has got me by just fine.

Friendship, and workrate are the biggest things that matter to me.
Rosie and Alex are music producers based in London who manage some of my favourite electronic dance artists. I fired 3 cameras off to get the perfect shot as I hid in the crowd.

Understanding the light is a big part of photography and it is what makes this image so unique. I don't think i have seen an image like it anywhere. Rachel was stood here chatting to her bridesmaids and just as she was about to move, I politely asked if i could take her picture whilst she was there alone. An inch either way of this light and the shot wouldn't have worked. In studying the light I saw this before I took it. Perfect place, perfect time, perfect bride.
